Security concious Betty ...

Created by David one year ago

My mother was always security conscious and always wanted to feel safe. She always felt safe with my father who was a big strapping builder and her two strapping sons to protect her.

In her later life and living alone she still liked to feel safe and locked all the doors before going to bed every night. However she had a liking to leave the keys in the door so she knew were the key were for her nightly tour of her castle to lock it up and to know she was safe to sleep. She always slept through the night and suspect knowing she was safe was one of the reasons for this.

There is only one issue with leaving the keys in the lock. This is that people cannot get into the house even if they have the keys. Over the last few years she would have the off fall and as she got older she needed help to get up and her mates in the police were happy to come around and assist on the off occasion she had a fall. However they very often had to break the lock to get in because she has left the keys in the lock! On one occasion she was in the floor and I was talking to the police on the phone and then to my mother via the videos I had installed (and she liked because they kept her feeling safe) and the police were joking with her through the door that her son was a "spook"!

in all the falls my mother had over the years the thing that still amazes me now was she never really hurt herself that badly. Once in 2011 she had to to hospital but was released the next day.  Earlier this year they took her in eventually but only because when the ambulance arrived they could see her bone! Even then she was just stitched up and released back the next day. I wonder if it was all those years and her gold medals and gold bars that helped her fall well even in her nineties!
